Quick Smart Kool Kut 1 is a general-purpose, nitrate-free extreme-pressure emulsifiable cutting oil formulated for metal-machining operations where rapid cooling, dependable lubrication and corrosion protection are required. When correctly added to water, the concentrated amber-to-brown fluid produces a stable milky-white cutting-fluid emulsion suitable for use in lathes and a broad range of compatible machining and grinding operations.
Metal cutting generates considerable heat at the contact point between the cutting tool and the workpiece. If this heat is not effectively controlled, it can contribute to accelerated tool wear, dimensional variation, poor surface finish and damage to the workpiece. Kool Kut 1 combines the strong cooling effect of water with the lubricating and protective properties of an emulsifiable mineral-oil concentrate.
The resulting emulsion flows readily through compatible machine-tool coolant systems, helping transfer heat away from the cutting zone while providing lubricity between the tool, workpiece and metal chips. Its extreme-pressure additive system supports machining under increased mechanical loads where an ordinary water-based cleaner would not provide sufficient lubrication.
Kool Kut 1 can be used at different concentrations to suit mild steel, medium steel, hard steel, brass, aluminium and compatible grinding operations. The manufacturer’s general starting recommendations range from one part concentrate to ten parts water for hard-steel machining through to one part concentrate to forty or fifty parts water for grinding.
Correct concentration is essential. A mixture that is too weak may provide insufficient lubrication, corrosion protection and biological control. An unnecessarily strong mixture can increase operating cost, residue, foaming and the possibility of grinding-wheel loading. Concentration should be selected for the machining operation and then monitored during service with an appropriate coolant-management procedure.
Kool Kut 1 contains an inbuilt system intended to help protect the working emulsion against bacterial deterioration. This supports sump cleanliness and coolant service life when the product is correctly mixed and properly maintained. It does not eliminate the need to monitor concentration, remove tramp oil, control accumulated metal fines and clean the machine sump when required.
The concentrate is nitrate-free and includes corrosion-control additives to help protect compatible machine surfaces and workpieces. These recommendations should be adjusted only after considering the machining severity, tooling, workpiece material, water quality, coolant delivery, surface-finish requirement and corrosion performance.
Concentrations stronger than one part concentrate to ten parts water are seldom required for general machining. Increasing the concentration beyond this point may not materially improve cutting performance and can promote foaming or excess residue.
For grinding, do not use the product at a weaker concentration than one part Kool Kut 1 to fifty parts water. Excessive dilution can significantly reduce corrosion protection. Conversely, an unnecessarily strong grinding mixture may contribute to grinding-wheel clogging or glazing of the workpiece.

Coolant Preparation and Directions for Use
Clean the coolant system before introducing a fresh charge, particularly where the previous fluid has failed, developed an objectionable odour or become heavily contaminated.
Remove old coolant, swarf, sludge and accessible tramp oil. Clean the sump, coolant lines, pumps, filters and exposed machine surfaces according to the equipment manufacturer’s procedure.
Calculate the required quantities of water and Kool Kut 1. Wherever possible, use clean water of suitable quality. Very hard, very soft or contaminated water can affect emulsion stability, corrosion protection and foam control.
Add the required water to a clean mixing tank or machine sump. Begin circulating or agitating the water.
Slowly add the measured Kool Kut 1 concentrate into the moving water. Always add oil concentrate to water. Do not add water directly into a container of concentrate.
Continue agitation until a consistent milky-white emulsion has formed. Allow the mixture to circulate through the system and check for leakage, unusual foaming or separation.
Measure the concentration with a clean, calibrated refractometer or another approved coolant-analysis method. A product-specific refractometer factor is required for precise conversion from the instrument reading to actual concentration. Do not assume that the refractometer reading directly equals the oil percentage unless this has been confirmed.
When topping up an operating machine, prepare a weaker premixed emulsion separately and add it gradually. Do not routinely add alternating quantities of neat concentrate and plain water directly to the sump.
Monitor coolant concentration, appearance, odour, tramp-oil level and accumulated solids. Remove chips and fines regularly, maintain filters and repair hydraulic or slideway-oil leaks that contaminate the coolant.

Handling & Storage Advice
Store Kool Kut 1 in its original, correctly labelled container in a cool, dry and well-ventilated area. Keep the package upright and securely closed when not in use.
Protect the product from direct sunlight, excessive heat, ignition sources and strong oxidising agents. Store separately from food, beverages and animal feed.
Wear suitable safety glasses, protective gloves and work clothing. A face shield or additional protective equipment may be required when mixing or transferring large volumes.
Avoid contact with the eyes, skin and clothing. The concentrate causes serious eye irritation, and prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause irritation or dermatitis through defatting.
If the product enters the eyes, rinse cautiously with clean water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contact lenses if present and easy to remove. Continue rinsing and obtain medical attention.
Wash exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water. Remove contaminated clothing and wash it before reuse. Do not use petrol, kerosene, solvent or contaminated rags to clean the skin.
Machining can generate coolant mist. Maintain adequate ventilation and use local exhaust ventilation where necessary. Keep exposure to airborne oil mist as low as reasonably practicable.
Spilled concentrate or emulsion can make floors extremely slippery. Contain spills promptly, prevent entry into drains and collect the material using suitable absorbent products.
Do not discharge used coolant into drains, sewers, soil or waterways. Used metalworking fluid may contain tramp oil, metal particles and other contaminants acquired during service. Arrange disposal through an authorised waste-management contractor in accordance with applicable regulations.
A full 20-litre container is heavy. Assess the load before lifting and use assisted lifting or suitable mechanical handling equipment when the container cannot be handled safely. Use appropriate drum-handling equipment for 205-litre containers.
