Description
Castrol POWER1 Ultimate 4T 10W-40 Full Synthetic Motorcycle Oil 4L
Product Description
Castrol POWER1 Ultimate 4T 10W-40 is an advanced full-synthetic motorcycle engine oil engineered to provide outstanding performance and protection across the engine, integrated gearbox and oil-immersed wet clutch. Its 5-in-1 performance formula is designed to deliver excellent acceleration, dependable component protection, smooth riding, effective temperature control and enduring performance.
Four-stroke motorcycle lubricants operate under significantly different conditions from ordinary passenger-car engine oils. In many motorcycles, a single lubricant must protect the engine, transmission and wet clutch. The oil is exposed to high engine speeds, elevated temperatures, combustion contamination and the mechanical shearing action of transmission gears while also maintaining carefully controlled friction characteristics for the clutch.
Castrol POWER1 Ultimate 4T 10W-40 is formulated specifically to meet these combined demands. Its full-synthetic technology helps maintain viscosity, resist thermal degradation, control deposits and protect critical internal components under both everyday and demanding riding conditions.
The SAE 10W-40 viscosity grade provides a practical balance between cold-start circulation and high-temperature film strength. The SAE 10W winter classification supports effective oil flow when the engine is started, helping deliver lubricant to bearings, camshafts, valve-train components and other critical surfaces. The SAE 40 operating-temperature viscosity helps retain a strong lubricating film once the engine reaches normal or elevated operating temperature.
Castrol POWER1 Ultimate 4T 10W-40 meets JASO MA2 requirements for compatible motorcycles fitted with oil-immersed wet clutches. JASO MA2 defines controlled friction characteristics that support positive clutch engagement, efficient power transfer and predictable clutch release. This makes the lubricant suitable for many motorcycles in which the engine, gearbox and clutch share one oil supply.
The current Castrol Australia product range lists API SP for POWER1 Ultimate 4T 10W-40. Earlier Australian containers and catalogue entries for the 4-litre product may display API SN. API SP is the newer petrol-engine performance category and is suitable for many applications requiring API SN or an earlier API petrol category. Customers requiring a specific performance claim should check the specification printed on the supplied container against the motorcycle owner’s handbook.
The product is suitable for compatible carburettor and fuel-injected four-stroke motorcycles. It also complies with the lubricant requirements of catalyst-equipped motorcycle engines where SAE 10W-40, API SN or a compatible earlier category and JASO MA or MA2 are specified.
The convenient 4-litre package is suitable for servicing individual motorcycles and may provide sufficient lubricant for a complete oil change in many compatible models. Motorcycle sump capacities vary considerably, so the required quantity must always be confirmed before filling.

Key Features and Benefits
Full-Synthetic Motorcycle Formulation
Castrol POWER1 Ultimate uses full-synthetic technology to provide dependable lubrication across a broad range of operating temperatures. Its base oils and additive system are designed to resist oxidation, support low-temperature circulation and retain effective viscosity during demanding riding.
Motorcycles often operate with smaller oil volumes and higher specific power outputs than passenger vehicles. The lubricant must work hard while exposed to high rotational speeds, concentrated loads and transmission shear. Full-synthetic technology helps the oil maintain protection under these conditions.
Five-in-One Performance Formula
Castrol identifies five main performance benefits for POWER1 Ultimate 4T 10W-40:
- Excellent acceleration
- Excellent protection
- Smooth riding
- Temperature control
- Enduring performance
These benefits are designed to provide balanced performance across the engine, gearbox and clutch rather than concentrating on only one part of the motorcycle.
Excellent Acceleration
Friction within an engine and transmission consumes part of the power generated during combustion. Castrol POWER1 Ultimate is formulated to reduce unnecessary internal resistance while retaining the oil-film strength and wet-clutch friction required by compatible motorcycles.
Castrol reports that POWER1 Ultimate accelerated four metres ahead of a premium competitor oil during a controlled 30-second full-throttle test using a Honda CBR300 engine. This result relates to specific laboratory-controlled test conditions and does not guarantee the same improvement in every motorcycle.
Actual acceleration depends on engine design, mechanical condition, gearing, motorcycle weight, rider input, fuel quality, tyre condition, ambient temperature and the viscosity recommended by the manufacturer.
Engine Wear Protection
Motorcycle components may experience high loads and rotational speeds. The normal lubricant film can become thin around bearings, camshafts, valve-train components, piston assemblies and transmission gears.
The advanced additive system helps maintain protection under these demanding conditions and reduce direct metal-to-metal contact.
Components supported by the lubricant include:
- Camshafts
- Valve-train components
- Crankshaft bearings
- Connecting-rod bearings
- Pistons and rings
- Cylinder surfaces
- Timing components
- Transmission gears
- Gearbox shafts and bearings
The lubricant cannot compensate for insufficient oil quantity, blocked oil passages, mechanical defects or excessive service intervals.
JASO MA2 Wet-Clutch Performance
Many four-stroke motorcycles use a wet clutch in which the clutch plates operate directly within the engine lubricant. The oil therefore affects clutch grip, engagement, release and power transfer.
Some passenger-car oils use friction-modifying additives that may be unsuitable for wet motorcycle clutches. Castrol POWER1 Ultimate 4T 10W-40 meets JASO MA2 requirements and provides controlled friction characteristics for compatible oil-immersed clutch systems.
JASO MA2 represents the higher-friction portion of the JASO MA classification. It supports positive clutch engagement, consistent power transfer and predictable operation under load.
Oil cannot repair worn, glazed, damaged or incorrectly adjusted clutch components. Persistent clutch slippage, grabbing or difficult engagement should be mechanically investigated.
Gearbox Protection and Smooth Shifting
Transmission gears mechanically shear the engine oil as their teeth engage under load. An unsuitable lubricant may lose viscosity or fail to provide adequate protection across the engine and transmission.
Castrol POWER1 Ultimate helps maintain lubricant-film strength and protect gear teeth, bearings and shafts. Combined with its JASO MA2 clutch performance, this can contribute to smoother gear selection and predictable shifting.
Gear-change quality is also affected by clutch adjustment, chain tension, shift-linkage condition, transmission wear and riding technique. Correct oil supports proper operation but cannot correct damaged components.
High-Temperature Performance
Four-stroke motorcycles can generate considerable heat during highway riding, slow traffic, competition, hill climbing and operation in hot weather. Air-cooled engines may experience substantial temperature variation because their cooling performance depends heavily on motorcycle speed and airflow.
The SAE 40 operating-temperature viscosity helps maintain film strength when SAE 10W-40 is specified. The full-synthetic formulation also resists oxidation and thermal degradation during demanding operation.
Temperature Control
Castrol POWER1 Ultimate is engineered to help control internal friction and heat. Reduced friction can assist the lubricant in protecting components and maintaining consistent performance during long or high-speed rides.
The oil does not replace the motorcycle’s cooling system. Coolant condition, radiator cleanliness, airflow, engine tuning and oil level must all be properly maintained.
Cold-Start Circulation
The SAE 10W winter classification supports dependable cranking and lubricant flow during cold starts. Prompt oil circulation helps deliver protection to critical components before the engine reaches operating temperature.
Riders should still avoid applying immediate high speed or heavy load to a cold engine. Follow the manufacturer’s recommended warm-up procedure.
Enduring Performance
High temperatures, fuel dilution, combustion contaminants and gearbox shearing progressively degrade motorcycle oil. A badly degraded lubricant may no longer provide the intended viscosity, cleanliness or clutch performance.
Castrol POWER1 Ultimate is designed to resist thermal and mechanical degradation, helping maintain performance throughout the manufacturer’s recommended service interval.
The use of a full-synthetic lubricant does not automatically permit an extended oil-change interval. Severe operating conditions may require more frequent servicing.
Engine Cleanliness
Combustion by-products and oxidised oil can contribute to sludge, varnish and piston deposits. These contaminants may restrict lubricant circulation, interfere with piston-ring movement and affect engine reliability.
Detergent and dispersant additives help control deposits and keep fine contamination suspended in the lubricant so it can be removed during the scheduled oil and filter change.
Catalyst Compatibility
Castrol states that POWER1 Ultimate 4T 10W-40 complies with the lubricant requirements of catalyst-equipped motorcycle engines.
This does not make it suitable for every catalyst-equipped motorcycle. The manufacturer must also permit SAE 10W-40, the applicable API category and JASO MA or MA2.
Suitable for Everyday and Demanding Riding
The balanced formulation makes Castrol POWER1 Ultimate suitable for compatible motorcycles used for commuting, touring, performance riding and recreational off-road operation.
Long-distance and demanding riding can expose the lubricant to sustained temperatures and high engine speeds. Check the oil level before extended travel and at appropriate intervals during the journey.

Handling & Storage Advice
Store Castrol POWER1 Ultimate 4T 10W-40 in its original, correctly labelled 4-litre container. Keep the cap securely closed and store the package upright in a cool, dry and well-ventilated location.
Protect the product from direct sunlight, rain, freezing conditions, excessive heat, ignition sources and physical damage. Castrol recommends that lubricant packages be stored under cover and not exposed to temperatures above 60°C.
Do not allow water, fuel, coolant, brake fluid, cleaning chemicals, dust, used oil or other contaminants to enter the container. Use a clean funnel or dedicated dispensing equipment when filling the motorcycle.
Avoid prolonged or repeated skin contact with new or used engine oil. Wear suitable oil-resistant gloves when servicing motorcycles and wash exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after handling.
Do not use petrol, solvents, abrasive cleaners or contaminated workshop rags to remove oil from the skin. Remove contaminated clothing and wash it before reuse.
Clean spills promptly because motorcycle oil can create a serious slip hazard. Contain spilled material with suitable absorbent products and prevent it from entering drains, stormwater systems, soil or waterways.
Used oil should be collected and sent to an authorised lubricant-recycling or waste-management service. Do not dispose of used lubricant into drains, soil, general waste or waterways.
Empty containers may retain oil residue. Do not cut, drill, weld, heat or expose empty packaging to flame. Consult the current Castrol Safety Data Sheet before commercial or workplace use.
Directions for Use
Before use, check the motorcycle owner’s handbook and confirm that SAE 10W-40 and JASO MA or MA2 oil are recommended. Confirm that the API specification printed on the supplied container satisfies the motorcycle’s requirements.
Warm the engine according to the manufacturer’s service procedure. Switch off the engine and secure the motorcycle on an appropriate stand before beginning the oil change.
Used engine oil can be extremely hot. Wear suitable protective equipment and take care when removing the filler cap, drain plug and oil filter.
Drain the used oil into a suitable collection container. Replace the drain-plug sealing washer where required and tighten the plug to the manufacturer’s specified torque.
Replace the oil filter using the correct replacement part and procedure. Add Castrol POWER1 Ultimate gradually through the designated filler opening.
Do not assume that the complete 4-litre container represents the correct oil quantity. Check the manufacturer’s specified capacity, including any difference between an oil-only service and an oil-and-filter replacement.
Start the engine and allow the lubricant to circulate while checking for leaks around the filter, drain plug and filler. Switch off the engine, allow the oil to settle and check the level according to the manufacturer’s procedure.
Do not overfill the engine. Both insufficient and excessive oil levels can cause operating problems or engine damage.
Follow the manufacturer’s recommended oil and filter service interval. Racing, off-road operation, frequent short trips, dusty environments, extended idling and severe temperatures may require more frequent servicing.
Avoid mixing the product with unknown oils. Although many engine oils are physically miscible, mixing different formulations may reduce clutch-friction performance, viscosity stability and the overall performance level of the finished lubricant.
