Description
Castrol RX Super 15W-40 CJ-4/E9 Heavy-Duty Diesel Engine Oil 1000L IBC
Product Description
Castrol RX Super 15W-40 CJ-4/E9 is an advanced heavy-duty diesel engine oil formulated for high-speed four-stroke diesel engines operating under demanding commercial, agricultural, industrial and off-highway conditions. It provides wear protection, soot control, engine cleanliness and dependable viscosity performance across naturally aspirated and turbocharged diesel engines requiring SAE 15W-40, API CJ-4 or ACEA E9 performance.
The formulation is compatible with diesel engines fitted with exhaust gas recirculation systems and modern exhaust after-treatment equipment, including diesel particulate filters, diesel oxidation catalysts and selective catalytic reduction systems. Its controlled sulphated-ash level helps support the protection and service life of compatible emissions-control equipment while maintaining the detergency, dispersancy and wear protection required by heavily loaded diesel engines.
Castrol RX Super uses DuraShield Technology to help control abrasive wear in engines exposed to soot, high loads and extended operating periods. Soot generated during diesel combustion can combine into larger particles that interfere with the lubricating film between moving components. The formulation helps keep soot dispersed while creating a protective layer on lubricated metal surfaces.
Castrol reports that RX Super 15W-40 CJ-4/E9 provides 40% better wear protection based on the average wear parameters measured in industry tests compared with applicable industry-standard limits. This is a controlled-test comparison and should not be interpreted as a guaranteed 40% extension in engine life, oil-drain interval or component life in every application.
The SAE 15W-40 viscosity grade provides dependable cold-start circulation under conditions appropriate for this grade while retaining an SAE 40 lubricating film at normal and elevated engine operating temperatures. It is widely applicable across trucks, tractors, buses, light-commercial vehicles, agricultural equipment, construction machinery and stationary diesel engines where the manufacturer specifies a matching viscosity and performance category.
The 1000-litre intermediate bulk container is designed for fleets, workshops, farms, dealerships, transport depots, civil contractors and industrial facilities with substantial lubricant consumption. Bulk packaging supports centralised stock control and connection to a suitable closed dispensing system, reducing reliance on numerous small containers.
Based on the published typical density of 0.8777 kg/L, the oil alone has a nominal mass of approximately 878 kilograms at 15°C. The complete IBC has a greater gross mass once the container, pallet and protective cage are included. Mechanical handling equipment with adequate rated capacity is required.

Key Features and Benefits
DuraShield Wear Protection
Castrol RX Super incorporates DuraShield Technology to help reduce abrasive wear under demanding diesel-engine conditions. It helps prevent soot particles from forming larger agglomerates while maintaining a protective lubricating layer on moving components.
This protection is particularly valuable in commercial engines exposed to high loads, extended operating hours, stop-start duty, towing, agricultural work and dusty off-highway environments.
Soot Handling and Dispersion
Diesel combustion can introduce soot into the crankcase oil. Excessive soot can increase viscosity, contribute to deposits and create abrasive particles capable of disrupting the lubricating film.
The dispersant system helps keep soot suspended in the oil so that it can be removed during the scheduled oil and filter change. Effective soot control supports oil circulation, engine cleanliness and protection of loaded components.
Compatibility with Emissions Systems
RX Super 15W-40 CJ-4/E9 is compatible with suitable engines equipped with EGR, DPF, DOC and SCR systems. Its sulphated-ash content is controlled to support modern diesel emissions equipment while retaining heavy-duty engine protection.
DPF compatibility does not replace correct vehicle operation or emissions-system maintenance. Excessive oil consumption, unsuitable fuel, failed injectors and mechanical defects can still contribute to filter loading.
High-Temperature Film Strength
The SAE 40 operating-temperature viscosity helps maintain a dependable lubricating film across bearings, camshafts, piston assemblies and valve-train components when SAE 15W-40 is specified.
The published kinematic viscosity of 15.0 mm²/s at 100°C places the product within the SAE 40 viscosity range. Actual in-service viscosity can be affected by soot loading, oxidation, fuel dilution, contamination and mechanical shearing.
Cold-Start Circulation
The SAE 15W winter grade supports oil circulation during cold starting within the temperature range permitted by the engine manufacturer. Prompt circulation helps deliver lubricant to bearings, camshafts, turbocharger components and valve-train surfaces while the engine warms.
Operators should still avoid immediate maximum engine speed or heavy loading after a cold start. Follow the equipment manufacturer’s starting and warm-up instructions.
Engine Cleanliness
Detergent and dispersant additives help control deposits, sludge and soot-related contamination. Maintaining cleaner pistons, oil galleries and valve-train areas supports efficient lubricant circulation and dependable engine performance.
Oil cannot remove severe existing deposits instantly or repair damage caused by neglected maintenance. Heavily contaminated engines may require inspection and controlled servicing.
Acid Neutralisation
The published Total Base Number of 9.8 mg KOH/g indicates the oil’s reserve alkalinity for neutralising acids produced during diesel combustion. This supports corrosion protection and oil performance during the specified service interval.
TBN depletion varies with fuel quality, operating conditions, oil consumption and drain interval. Oil analysis may be appropriate for large fleets or equipment operating under severe service.
Corrosion and Rust Protection
The additive system helps protect engine surfaces against corrosion arising from combustion by-products, moisture and periods of inactivity. This is useful for agricultural and seasonal equipment that may experience intermittent operation.
Storage preparation and recommissioning procedures must still follow the equipment manufacturer’s instructions.
Broad Mixed-Fleet Capability
The extensive range of published diesel specifications makes the product suitable for many compatible American, European and Japanese heavy-duty engines. This can help fleets reduce the number of diesel engine oils held in stock.
Fleet rationalisation should be based on a documented comparison of every engine’s requirements. One oil should not be adopted across an entire fleet merely because it matches most equipment.
Economical 1000-Litre IBC Supply
The 1000L IBC is appropriate for businesses with regular high-volume engine-oil consumption. It supports connection to a dedicated pump, hose reel, metered dispenser or workshop oil-management system.
Bulk supply can reduce packaging handling, improve stock visibility and support controlled dispensing. These benefits depend on suitable storage, clean transfer equipment and accurate usage records.
Oil-Change and Dispensing Instructions
Before use, check the engine owner’s manual and confirm that SAE 15W-40, API CJ-4, ACEA E9 or the applicable OEM performance level is permitted.
Use dedicated, clean dispensing equipment. The IBC pump, hose, meter, nozzle and connectors must be compatible with engine oil and protected from water, dust and other lubricants.
Do not use equipment previously exposed to coolant, diesel exhaust fluid, solvent, brake fluid or an incompatible lubricant unless it has been professionally cleaned and its suitability confirmed.
Warm the engine according to the manufacturer’s service procedure. Shut it down, isolate the equipment and secure it against unintended movement before beginning the oil change.
Drain the used oil into a suitable collection vessel. Used engine oil may be extremely hot. Wear appropriate gloves, protective clothing and eye protection.
Replace the oil filter at the specified interval. Install the correct filter and tighten the drain plug and filter according to the equipment manufacturer’s torque requirements.
Dispense the oil gradually and verify the delivered quantity with a calibrated meter or other suitable measuring system. Do not rely solely on pump operating time.
Start the engine and allow the oil to circulate while checking for leakage. Shut the engine down, allow the oil to settle and confirm the level using the manufacturer’s procedure.
Both underfilling and overfilling can cause operational problems or engine damage. Recheck the level after the first operating period and inspect the filter, drain plug and filler for leaks.
Follow the manufacturer’s oil-drain interval. API CJ-4 or ACEA E9 performance and a 1000L bulk package do not independently authorise extended oil changes.

Handling & Storage Advice
Store the IBC upright on a stable, level and suitably rated surface within a covered, secure and well-ventilated area. Provide secondary containment or bunding appropriate to the stored volume and applicable workplace requirements.
Protect the IBC from rain, direct sunlight, freezing conditions, excessive heat and physical damage. Castrol advises that packaged lubricants should not be stored above 60°C.
Keep the fill opening, outlet valve and protective caps securely closed when not dispensing. Replace the valve cap immediately after use and inspect the valve area regularly for seepage.
Use a dedicated pump and closed dispensing system wherever practical. Keep hoses capped and nozzles stored in a clean holder so dust, water, coolant and other contaminants cannot enter the oil.
Do not climb on the IBC, lift it by the protective cage or suspend it from unsuitable points. Move it only with correctly rated mechanical handling equipment operated by trained personnel. Forks must be positioned correctly beneath the pallet base.
The lubricant alone weighs approximately 878 kg at 15°C, and the complete package has a greater gross mass. Confirm that forklifts, pallet trucks, shelving, floors and transport vehicles have adequate rated capacity.
Do not stack filled IBCs unless the container supplier specifically permits stacking and provides the applicable load limits. Keep the IBC away from traffic routes or protect it with suitable barriers.
Avoid prolonged or repeated skin contact with new or used engine oil. Wear suitable oil-resistant gloves and wash exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water.
Used engine oil may contain hazardous contaminants accumulated during service. Avoid contact with used oil and never use petrol, kerosene or solvent to clean oil from the skin.
Clean spills promptly because engine oil creates a serious slip hazard. Contain the material with suitable absorbent products and prevent it from entering drains, soil, stormwater systems or waterways.
Collect used oil for recycling or disposal through an authorised waste-management service. Do not mix used engine oil with coolant, fuel, brake fluid, solvent or other wastes because contamination may prevent recycling.
Consult the current Castrol Safety Data Sheet and complete an appropriate workplace risk assessment before installing, storing or dispensing from the IBC.
