Description

Shell Omala S2 GX 220

Extreme-Pressure (EP) Industrial Gear Oil

Product Description

Shell Omala S2 GX is a line of premium EP (extreme pressure) mineral gear oils developed for heavy duty enclosed industrial gearboxes. They are formulated for steel-on-steel gear sets (spur, helical, planetary), especially under high loads, splash or forced circulation. The formulation provides excellent protection against wear, micro pitting, oxidation (thermal breakdown), corrosion, foaming, and also delivers good water separation.

Applications

  • Enclosed industrial gearboxes: spur, helical, planetary gear drives.

  • Systems with splash lubrication or forced circulation.

  • Bearings or other steel-on-steel components in gear oil systems.

Features & Benefits

Feature Benefit / Why it matters
High load carrying & EP performance Protects gears under high torque or shock loads.
Micropitting protection Helps avoid surface fatigue on gear tooth flanks, extending gear life.
Excellent oxidation stability Leaves less sludge or varnish, meaning longer oil change intervals.
Water separation & corrosion resistance Helps drain off water quickly, protects gears and bearings; avoids corrosion.
Low foam & good air release Prevents issues from entrained air or foam that reduce film strength or cause vibration.
Seal & paint compatibility

Reduces risk of leaks and protects painted surfaces in gear housings
