Description
Mobilcut 100 Water-Miscible Cutting Fluid 20L
Product Description
Mobilcut 100 is a conventional mineral-oil-based, water-miscible cutting fluid concentrate developed for general machining of easy-to-machine steels, copper alloys and other compatible ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
When correctly mixed with water, Mobilcut 100 forms a stable, milky-white emulsion that provides a practical balance of cooling, lubrication, corrosion protection and machining performance.
The product is particularly suited to light-to-moderate machining operations such as milling, turning, sawing, boring, drilling and reaming. Its broad general-purpose performance makes it suitable for engineering workshops, metal-fabrication businesses and manufacturing facilities seeking an economical soluble cutting fluid.
Mobilcut 100 is supplied as a concentrate and must be mixed with water before normal use. It is not designed to be poured directly into a machine-tool coolant system as an undiluted cutting oil.
Water performs the primary cooling function in the prepared emulsion by absorbing heat generated at the cutting zone. The mineral-oil and additive components provide lubrication between the cutting tool, metal chip and workpiece.
This combination helps control heat, reduce friction, support tool life and improve the surface finish of correctly machined components. It also helps carry chips and fine metal particles away from the cutting area.
Mobilcut 100 is formulated to mix readily with different water qualities and form a stable emulsion. The resulting milky appearance allows operators to distinguish the prepared coolant from clear water while also providing visual evidence of circulation through the system.
The product offers corrosion protection for compatible machine-tool surfaces, fixtures and machined components. Effective corrosion protection can reduce machine maintenance and minimise the need to rework components affected by flash rust.
Mobilcut 100 also provides good separation from metal fines. This assists filtration and can help prevent excessive particulate accumulation within the circulating coolant system.
The formulation has low foaming potential when used at the correct concentration with suitable water and properly maintained equipment. Foam control is important in high-flow or mechanically agitated coolant systems because excessive foam can reduce pump efficiency, interfere with coolant delivery and contribute to overflow.
Mobilcut 100 is part of Mobil’s non-chlorinated metalworking-fluid range. It provides machining lubricity without relying on chlorinated extreme-pressure additives.
The product is compatible with high-performance Mobil Vactra slideway lubricants. Suitable separation of slideway oil from the water-miscible coolant can support easier tramp-oil removal and improve coolant-system maintenance.
The 20-litre pack provides a practical workshop quantity for individual machine sumps, smaller central systems and businesses that require concentrated cutting fluid without purchasing an industrial drum.

Workshops seeking to consolidate general machining coolants
Compatibility should be confirmed before machining sensitive aluminium alloys, magnesium, aerospace alloys, stained metals or materials requiring specialised surface-finish control.
Copper alloys vary significantly in composition. Test the prepared emulsion on the actual alloy where surface staining, colour change or long-term storage protection is important.
Mobilcut 100 is not intended to replace a neat cutting oil in operations specifically requiring undiluted oil. It should not be used as a slideway lubricant, hydraulic oil, gear oil, spindle oil or general-purpose machine lubricant.
It is also not a machine-cleaning chemical. A dedicated system cleaner may be required when converting a contaminated or biologically affected coolant system.
Key Features and Benefits
Stable Milky Emulsion
Mobilcut 100 readily mixes with compatible water to form a conventional milky emulsion.
A stable emulsion keeps the oil and performance additives distributed throughout the working fluid. This supports consistent cooling, lubrication and corrosion protection at the cutting zone.
Emulsion stability depends on correct mixing, suitable water quality, concentration control and effective system maintenance.
Balanced Cooling and Lubrication
The water phase carries heat away from the cutting operation, while the mineral-oil phase provides lubrication.
This balance makes Mobilcut 100 suitable for general machining where both cooling and lubricity are required.
Effective coolant delivery helps reduce excessive cutting temperature, tool-edge damage, workpiece distortion and poor surface finish.
General-Purpose Machining Performance
Mobilcut 100 is suitable for a range of light-to-moderate metal-removal processes. One correctly managed coolant may therefore cover multiple compatible machines and operations.
Product consolidation can simplify purchasing, storage, coolant mixing and operator training.
The most demanding operations may require a higher-performance soluble, semi-synthetic or neat cutting fluid.
Corrosion Protection
The prepared emulsion helps protect compatible machine-tool surfaces, fixtures and workpieces against corrosion.
Corrosion protection depends on maintaining sufficient product concentration. An emulsion that becomes excessively diluted may no longer provide dependable protection.
Water chemistry, chloride content, metal contamination and microbial activity can also affect corrosion performance.
Good Separation from Metal Fines
Mobilcut 100 provides good separation from fines, supporting filtration and coolant cleanliness.
Removing chips and abrasive particles can improve surface finish, protect pumps and reduce recirculation of contaminants through the cutting zone.
Filters, settlement tanks, magnetic separators and other coolant-management equipment must be maintained according to their operating instructions.
Low Foaming Potential
The formulation is designed to provide low foam potential across suitable hard and soft water qualities.
Foaming can still occur when the concentration is too high, the coolant contains cleaning chemicals or the system draws air through leaking pumps and return lines.
High-pressure coolant delivery, excessive agitation and very soft water may also contribute to foam formation.
Machine Cleanliness
Mobilcut products are designed to resist the formation of sticky residues when correctly maintained.
Cleaner machine surfaces can reduce maintenance time and help keep moving parts, guarding and coolant-return channels operating effectively.
Dried residue should be removed using a compatible cleaning procedure rather than aggressive chemicals that may destabilise the working emulsion.
Compatibility with Mobil Vactra Slideway Oils
Mobilcut 100 is compatible with high-performance Mobil Vactra slideway lubricants.
This compatibility helps slideway oil separate from the water-miscible coolant so it can be removed as tramp oil.
Compatibility does not mean slideway oil should be deliberately allowed to enter the coolant system. Machine leaks should be repaired, and floating tramp oil should be removed regularly.
Neutral Workplace Odour
Mobil describes the product as having a neutral odour. Correct coolant maintenance can support a more acceptable workshop environment.
Strong, sour or unpleasant odour may indicate bacterial or fungal contamination, excessive tramp oil, poor circulation or an overloaded coolant system.
Fragrance should never be used as the only measure of coolant condition.
Practical 20-Litre Concentrate
The 20-litre pack provides enough concentrate to prepare a significantly larger quantity of working emulsion.
At a 5% concentration, 20 litres of concentrate can theoretically prepare approximately 400 litres of working fluid. At a 10% concentration, it can prepare approximately 200 litres.
These calculations assume that the full concentrate quantity is used and that final volume is controlled correctly. Actual requirements depend on system capacity, retained fluid and concentration adjustment.

Handling & Storage Advice
Store Mobilcut 100 in its original, correctly labelled 20-litre container. Keep the closure securely fitted and store the package upright in a cool, dry and well-ventilated location.
Protect the concentrate from direct sunlight, rain, freezing conditions, excessive heat and physical damage.
Do not allow water, dust, metal particles, used coolant, hydraulic oil, slideway oil or cleaning chemicals to enter the concentrate container.
The fluid content weighs approximately 17.6 kg, excluding the container. Assess the total load before lifting. Use assisted lifting or suitable handling equipment where the full container cannot be handled safely.
Wear suitable gloves, protective clothing and eye protection while mixing, transferring or maintaining the product.
Avoid prolonged or repeated skin contact with both the concentrate and working emulsion. Water-miscible metalworking fluids can remove natural oils from the skin, and individual formulations may contain substances capable of causing irritation or sensitisation.
Avoid breathing machining mist or aerosol. Use effective machine guarding, enclosure and local exhaust ventilation where mist may be generated.
Wash exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after handling. Do not use solvents, petrol or contaminated workshop rags to clean the skin.
Do not eat, drink or smoke in areas where metalworking fluids are prepared or used. Wash hands before breaks and at the end of the shift.
Clean spills promptly because both concentrate and prepared emulsion can create a serious slip hazard. Prevent the product from entering drains, soil, stormwater systems or waterways.
Working coolant can acquire hazards from machined metals, tramp oils, biological contamination and process residues. Disposal requirements should be based on the condition and composition of the used fluid.
Consult the current Australian Safety Data Sheet before workplace use.
Directions for Mixing and Use
Clean and inspect the coolant system before introducing Mobilcut 100. Remove old coolant, accumulated chips, sludge, tramp oil and biological deposits.
If a machine cleaner is required, use a compatible product according to its instructions. Rinse and drain the system thoroughly before adding the new emulsion.
Use clean water from a controlled source. Do not use water from fire hoses, contaminated tanks, stagnant supplies or other sources that may introduce microorganisms, dirt or excessive dissolved salts.
Begin with the required amount of water in a clean mixing vessel or machine sump. Add the Mobilcut 100 concentrate slowly to the water while maintaining effective agitation.
Always add oil concentrate to water. Do not add water directly into a container of concentrated Mobilcut 100 because this can produce an unstable or inverted emulsion.
Continue mixing until the emulsion is uniform and milky in appearance.
Check the concentration using a clean refractometer. Where the applicable refractometer factor is 0.95, multiply the instrument reading by 0.95 to estimate the actual concentration. Confirm the correct factor for the supplied batch before relying on this calculation.
Allow for background refractometer readings caused by dissolved contamination in used coolant. A refractometer is most accurate when tested against a clean sample or supported by laboratory analysis.
Maintain the coolant at the concentration required for the application. A concentration that is too low may reduce corrosion protection, lubricity and emulsion stability. Excessive concentration can increase cost, residue, skin exposure and foaming.
Prepare a premixed make-up emulsion before adding replacement fluid to the machine. Do not repeatedly add neat concentrate or plain water without checking the resulting system concentration.
Remove floating tramp oil regularly. Repair leaking hydraulic, spindle, gear and slideway systems that continually contaminate the coolant.
Maintain filters, conveyors, skimmers and settling equipment. Remove accumulated swarf and fines before they overload the system.
Keep the coolant circulating where practical. Extended idle periods can promote separation, stagnant areas and microbial growth.
