Description

Hi-Tec Fast 4 MA2 10W-40 Mineral Motorcycle Oil 20L

Product Description

Hi-Tec Fast 4 MA2 10W-40 is a premium mineral-based four-stroke motorcycle engine oil formulated for motorcycles with integrated gearboxes and oil-immersed wet clutches. It combines highly refined mineral base oils with a high-performance additive system to provide dependable engine protection, controlled clutch friction, accurate gear changing and reliable lubrication during on-road and off-road operation.

Motorcycle engine oils operate under conditions that differ significantly from those experienced by conventional passenger-car lubricants. In many motorcycles, a single lubricant protects the engine, transmission and wet clutch. The oil must therefore resist high engine temperatures, protect rapidly rotating components, withstand the mechanical shearing action of transmission gears and maintain the correct friction characteristics for the clutch plates.

Hi-Tec Fast 4 MA2 10W-40 is engineered to satisfy these combined requirements. It exceeds the friction-performance requirements of JASO MA2 under JASO T903:2016 and is suitable for compatible four-stroke motorcycles requiring JASO MA or MA2 oil. Its controlled friction characteristics allow wet clutch plates to engage, hold and release correctly, supporting predictable power transfer and accurate gear changes.

The JASO MA2 classification evaluates important clutch-friction characteristics, including the Dynamic Friction Index, Static Friction Index and Stop Time Index. These measurements help determine how the lubricant interacts with wet clutch components during engagement, acceleration and gear changing. An unsuitable friction-modified passenger-car oil may contribute to clutch slippage or inconsistent engagement in some motorcycles, whereas a correctly selected JASO MA2 oil is designed to support positive clutch operation.

Hi-Tec Fast 4 MA2 also exceeds API SN performance requirements and provides protection against wear, deposits, sludge, rust, corrosion and lubricant breakdown. It is suitable for compatible multi-valve and four-stroke motorcycle engines where SAE 10W-40 is recommended for reliable cold starting and continued protection during hot operating conditions.

The SAE 10W-40 viscosity grade provides a balance between low-temperature circulation and dependable film strength after the engine reaches operating temperature. The 10W cold-viscosity classification supports prompt lubricant flow during start-up, while the SAE 40 operating-temperature viscosity helps maintain a protective film across bearings, camshafts, valve-train components, pistons, rings, cylinder surfaces and gearbox parts.

Supplied in a practical 20-litre container, Hi-Tec Fast 4 MA2 10W-40 is suitable for motorcycle workshops, dealerships, farms, fleet operators, riding schools and owners servicing multiple compatible motorcycles, ATVs or quad bikes.

The oil should not automatically be used as a separate motorcycle transmission or final-drive lubricant. Some motorcycles require a dedicated gearbox or hypoid gear oil separate from the engine lubricant. Always follow the manufacturer’s lubrication chart for each compartment.

Key Features and Benefits

JASO MA2 Wet-Clutch Performance

Hi-Tec Fast 4 MA2 is formulated to provide the controlled friction required by compatible oil-immersed motorcycle clutches. The lubricant supports positive engagement, predictable release and effective power transfer without relying on the friction modifiers used in certain passenger-car and scooter oils.

Correct friction performance is particularly important during acceleration, hill climbing, carrying a passenger, towing an approved load and off-road operation. These conditions can place additional thermal and mechanical stress on the clutch.

The oil can support proper clutch operation but cannot repair worn, glazed, damaged or incorrectly adjusted clutch components. Persistent slippage, grabbing or difficult engagement should be mechanically investigated.

Integrated Engine, Gearbox and Clutch Protection

Many four-stroke motorcycles use one oil for the engine, transmission and clutch. This arrangement exposes the lubricant to combustion heat, contaminants, high-speed engine components and the severe shearing action of meshing gears.

Hi-Tec Fast 4 MA2 provides balanced protection across these systems. Its anti-wear additives help protect highly loaded engine and transmission components, while its viscosity characteristics support a dependable lubricating film throughout the shared system.

Accurate and Predictable Gear Changes

The JASO MA2 friction profile supports the correct engagement and release behaviour of compatible wet clutches. Combined with effective gearbox lubrication, this can contribute to smoother gear selection and predictable shifting.

Gear-change quality also depends on gearbox design, clutch adjustment, chain tension, shift-linkage condition, riding technique and mechanical wear. The correct lubricant supports normal operation but cannot correct damaged transmission components.

Wear Protection

Motorcycle engines may operate at high rotational speeds and place substantial pressure on bearings, camshafts, valve-train components and piston assemblies. Gear teeth within integrated transmissions also experience concentrated contact loads.

The high-performance additive system helps maintain protection when the normal oil film becomes thin. This reduces direct metal-to-metal contact and supports the service life of critical engine and transmission components.

Engine Cleanliness

Hi-Tec states that Fast 4 MA2 reduces piston deposits by 14% compared with SM-rated oils and reduces engine sludge by 2.5% under the manufacturer’s referenced performance comparisons.

Detergent and dispersant additives help minimise sludge, varnish and deposit formation. They also help keep fine contaminants suspended in the lubricant so they can be removed during the scheduled oil and filter change.

Maintaining internal cleanliness supports piston-ring movement, oil circulation, heat transfer and consistent engine performance. The results achieved in an individual motorcycle depend on its condition, fuel quality, service interval and operating environment.

Protection in Hot Operating Conditions

Four-stroke motorcycles can generate substantial heat, especially during slow traffic, off-road riding, hill climbing and operation in hot Australian conditions. Air-cooled engines may experience significant temperature variation because cooling depends heavily on vehicle speed and airflow.

The SAE 40 operating-temperature viscosity helps maintain oil-film strength when SAE 10W-40 is specified. The formulation also helps control oxidation and deposit formation during normal service.

Oil levels should be checked regularly because some motorcycles may consume lubricant during sustained high-speed or high-temperature operation.

Cold-Start Circulation

The SAE 10W cold-viscosity classification supports effective cranking and lubricant circulation during cold starts. Prompt oil flow helps deliver protection to bearings, camshafts, valve-train components and cylinder surfaces while the engine is warming.

Operators should still avoid immediately applying high engine speed or heavy load after a cold start. Follow the motorcycle manufacturer’s recommended starting and warm-up procedure.

Shear Stability

Transmission gears can mechanically shear an engine oil and reduce its viscosity during service. Hi-Tec Fast 4 MA2 records a typical viscosity of 12.6 mm²/s after the published 30-pass shear test, which remains within the SAE 40 operating-temperature viscosity range.

This shear stability supports continued film strength across the engine and gearbox throughout the appropriate service interval. Actual in-service viscosity can also be affected by fuel dilution, contamination, oxidation and excessive operating temperature.

Rust and Corrosion Protection

Moisture can enter a motorcycle engine through condensation, combustion by-products, washing or storage. Hi-Tec Fast 4 MA2 contains additives that help protect internal metal surfaces against rust and corrosion.

Motorcycles placed into seasonal or long-term storage may require additional preparation. Follow the manufacturer’s storage recommendations and consider replacing contaminated or degraded oil before extended storage.

E85 Compatibility

Hi-Tec identifies Fast 4 MA2 as E85 compatible. This indicates that the oil is formulated to accommodate compatible motorcycles operating on high-ethanol fuel.

This claim does not mean that every motorcycle can use E85. The engine, fuel system, seals, fuel lines and calibration must be designed or specifically approved for E85 by the motorcycle manufacturer.

Practical 20-Litre Packaging

The 20-litre pack provides an economical quantity for workshops, dealerships, farms and owners servicing several motorcycles. It reduces the number of small containers required and supports controlled dispensing with a clean pump, tap or suitable pouring device.

The package should remain securely closed between uses to prevent contamination by dust, water, fuel, coolant or used lubricant.

Handling & Storage Advice

Store Hi-Tec Fast 4 MA2 10W-40 in its original, correctly labelled 20-litre container. Keep the container upright and securely closed in a cool, dry and well-ventilated area.

Protect the product from direct sunlight, rain, excessive heat, ignition sources and physical damage. Do not allow water, fuel, coolant, brake fluid, cleaning chemicals, dust or used oil to enter the container.

Use clean, dedicated dispensing equipment. A contaminated pump, funnel or transfer container can introduce abrasive particles or incompatible fluids that may reduce lubricant performance.

Avoid prolonged or repeated skin contact with new or used engine oil. Suitable protective equipment may include oil-resistant gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, depending on the workplace risk assessment.

Wash exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after handling. Do not use petrol, solvents, abrasive cleaners or contaminated workshop rags to clean oil from the skin. Remove contaminated clothing and wash it before reuse.

Clean spills promptly because engine oil can create a serious slip hazard. Contain spilled material with suitable absorbent products and prevent it from entering drains, stormwater systems, soil or waterways.

A full 20-litre container is heavy. Assess the load before lifting and use assisted lifting or suitable mechanical handling equipment when required. Do not attempt to lift or carry the full container if it cannot be handled safely.

Used oil should be collected and sent to an authorised lubricant-recycling or waste-management service. Do not dispose of used engine oil into drains, soil or general waste. Consult the current Hi-Tec Safety Data Sheet before workplace use.

Directions for Use

Before use, consult the motorcycle owner’s manual and confirm that SAE 10W-40, API SN and JASO MA or MA2 oil are recommended.

Warm the engine according to the manufacturer’s service procedure. Switch off the engine, secure the motorcycle on a suitable stand and allow the lubricant to drain safely.

Used engine oil may be extremely hot. Wear appropriate protective equipment and take care when removing the drain plug, oil filter and filler cap.

Drain the used oil into a suitable collection container. Replace the drain-plug sealing washer where required and tighten the plug to the manufacturer’s specified torque.

Replace the oil filter at the required interval using the correct filter. Add Hi-Tec Fast 4 MA2 gradually through the designated filler opening. Do not exceed the manufacturer’s specified oil capacity.

Start the engine and allow the oil to circulate while checking for leaks around the filter, drain plug and filler. Switch off the engine, allow the lubricant to settle and check the oil level according to the manufacturer’s procedure.

Both underfilling and overfilling can cause operational problems or engine damage. Recheck the oil level regularly, particularly before extended trips or demanding off-road use.

Follow the motorcycle manufacturer’s recommended oil-change interval. Frequent short trips, competition, dusty environments, repeated high-speed operation, excessive idling and severe temperatures may require more frequent servicing.

Avoid mixing the product with unknown oils. Although many engine oils are physically miscible, mixing different formulations can reduce clutch-friction performance, shear stability and the overall performance level of the finished lubricant.
