Description
FUCHS RENOLIN B 46 HVI PLUS Premium Hydraulic Oil
Product Description
FUCHS RENOLIN B 46 HVI PLUS is a premium ISO VG 46 hydraulic oil developed for mobile and stationary hydraulic systems operating across a broad range of ambient and equipment temperatures.
It combines high-quality Group II hydrotreated mineral base oils with zinc-containing anti-wear, extreme-pressure, oxidation-control, corrosion-protection and demulsifying additives. This formulation provides dependable hydraulic performance, strong component protection and extended fluid-life potential in correctly maintained systems.
The letters HVI mean High Viscosity Index. A high-viscosity-index hydraulic oil changes viscosity less dramatically as its temperature changes than a conventional single-grade hydraulic oil with a lower viscosity index.
This characteristic allows RENOLIN B 46 HVI PLUS to remain sufficiently fluid during cold starting while retaining protective viscosity at elevated operating temperatures. It is particularly valuable in mobile machinery and exposed hydraulic systems that may begin work in cold conditions and later operate under heavy load at substantially higher temperatures.
The product has a published viscosity index of 152 and a typical pour point of -42°C. These characteristics support cold-start circulation and dependable year-round operation where ISO VG 46 high-viscosity-index oil is specified.
RENOLIN B 46 HVI PLUS is based on multigrade hydraulic-oil technology. Its carefully selected viscosity-index improver provides high shear stability, helping the oil resist permanent viscosity loss as it passes repeatedly through high-pressure pumps, valves, restrictions and actuators.
Viscosity stability is important because a severely sheared oil may become too thin at operating temperature. This can reduce lubricant-film thickness, increase internal leakage, lower volumetric efficiency and accelerate wear.
The product’s anti-wear and extreme-pressure additive system protects pumps and other loaded hydraulic components against wear. It is suitable for high-pressure applications where the equipment manufacturer permits a zinc-containing HVLP hydraulic oil.
Its oxidation resistance helps slow the formation of acids, varnish, sludge and deposits. This supports cleaner components, more reliable valve operation and longer oil-life potential.
Extended oil-drain intervals may be possible where permitted by the equipment manufacturer and supported by regular fluid analysis. An extended-life lubricant must not be used to justify an uncontrolled service interval or the continued operation of contaminated oil.
RENOLIN B 46 HVI PLUS also contains additives that protect ferrous and non-ferrous hydraulic components against rust and corrosion. Protection against water-related corrosion remains dependent on effective system maintenance and prompt removal of free water.
The oil is demulsifying, meaning it is formulated to separate from water rather than forming a stable emulsion. Effective water separation allows settled free water to be identified and drained from suitable hydraulic reservoirs.
Its readily identifiable blue colour can assist operators when checking reservoir level, identifying leaks and distinguishing the fluid from certain other workshop lubricants. Colour must not be used as the only method of product identification because different oils can have a similar appearance.
The product is available in 5-litre, 20-litre, 205-litre and 1000-litre Australian pack sizes. This range supports individual equipment servicing, workshop use, fleet maintenance, industrial plants and bulk hydraulic-system filling.

Workshops seeking one premium hydraulic fluid for compatible equipment
This product should not automatically be used in a combined transmission and hydraulic system. Agricultural tractors and off-highway equipment may require a universal tractor transmission oil, power-transmission fluid or manufacturer-specific drivetrain lubricant.
RENOLIN B 46 HVI PLUS must not be used as brake fluid, automatic-transmission fluid, engine oil, final-drive oil, compressor lubricant or fire-resistant hydraulic fluid.
It is not intended for systems requiring water glycol, phosphate ester, polyol ester, environmentally acceptable hydraulic fluid or food-grade hydraulic oil unless compatibility and suitability are specifically confirmed.
Key Features and Benefits
High Viscosity Index
The viscosity index of 152 helps the oil maintain more consistent viscosity as operating temperature changes.
During cold starts, the oil remains sufficiently fluid to move through suction lines, pumps, valves and filters. Once the hydraulic system reaches operating temperature, it retains the viscosity needed for lubrication, sealing and hydraulic efficiency.
The actual minimum start-up temperature depends on pump design, suction-line dimensions, reservoir heating, filter condition and equipment-manufacturer limits. Pour point must not be treated as the recommended cold-start temperature.
Strong Shear Stability
Hydraulic oil is repeatedly subjected to severe mechanical stress as it passes through high-pressure pumps, servo valves and narrow clearances.
RENOLIN B 46 HVI PLUS provides strong shear stability, helping the fluid remain within its intended viscosity range throughout service.
Maintaining viscosity supports hydraulic response, internal sealing, pump efficiency and lubricant-film strength.
Anti-Wear Protection
The zinc-containing anti-wear and extreme-pressure additive system helps protect loaded components when the normal lubricant film becomes thin.
Protected components may include:
-
Hydraulic pumps
-
Pistons
-
Cylinder bores
-
Valve plates
-
Vanes
-
Gears
-
Bearings
-
Hydraulic motors
-
Control valves
-
Actuator components
The oil cannot compensate for incorrect clearances, cavitation, poor alignment, contaminated filters or prolonged operation with insufficient fluid.
Oxidation and Ageing Resistance
High operating temperatures and air exposure can cause hydraulic oil to oxidise. Oxidised oil may increase in viscosity and produce acids, sludge and varnish.
RENOLIN B 46 HVI PLUS is formulated for strong oxidation resistance, helping maintain oil performance and system cleanliness.
Fluid life depends on temperature, contamination, reservoir design, air entrainment, water ingress and equipment duty cycle.
Extended-Drain Potential
FUCHS identifies extended oil-change potential for the RENOLIN B HVI PLUS range.
Any extended interval must be supported by the equipment manufacturer’s instructions and a suitable oil-analysis program. Useful tests can include viscosity, acid number, oxidation, water content, particle count, additive condition and wear metals.
Calendar time or operating hours alone may not accurately indicate fluid condition.
Rust and Corrosion Protection
Hydraulic systems may be exposed to water through condensation, damaged seals, pressure washing or contaminated transfer equipment.
The corrosion-control additive system protects compatible metal surfaces against rust and corrosion. Free water must still be removed because it can promote corrosion, additive depletion, filter blockage and bearing damage.
Effective Water Separation
The oil’s demulsifying properties allow it to separate from water under suitable conditions.
Water that settles at the bottom of the reservoir can then be drained. Persistent cloudy oil may indicate fine water dispersion, incompatible fluid, air entrainment or detergent contamination and should be investigated.
Hydraulic Efficiency
Correct viscosity reduces internal leakage while allowing efficient fluid circulation.
An oil that is too thin may increase leakage across pumps and valves. An oil that is too thick can increase pumping resistance, delay hydraulic response and raise start-up energy consumption.
RENOLIN B 46 HVI PLUS provides balanced viscosity across a broad operating-temperature range when ISO VG 46 HVLP oil is appropriate.
Cold-Start Performance
The -42°C published pour point and high viscosity index provide strong low-temperature characteristics.
Improved cold-temperature flow can support faster lubricant delivery and reduce the energy required to begin circulating the oil.
Operators must still follow the machinery manufacturer’s cold-start and warm-up procedure. Equipment should not be placed under full load before satisfactory circulation and hydraulic response are established.
High-Pressure Capability
The anti-wear and extreme-pressure system supports high-pressure hydraulic applications.
High-pressure performance depends on keeping the oil clean and free from excessive water, air and incompatible contamination. Even high-quality oil cannot protect precision hydraulic components from heavily contaminated fluid.
Blue Identification Colour
The blue appearance helps with level checks and leak identification.
Colour is only a supporting feature. Product name, container label, service records and dedicated dispensing equipment should be used to confirm lubricant identity.
Wide Industry Coverage
The product is suited to compatible equipment in agriculture, construction, forestry, mining, quarrying, metal processing, manufacturing, cement production and material handling.
Its broad performance profile can assist with lubricant consolidation where every included machine permits ISO VG 46 HVLP hydraulic oil.
Lubricant consolidation must follow an equipment-by-equipment review. It must not be based only on the claim that the product has a broad temperature range.

Handling & Storage Advice
Store RENOLIN B 46 HVI PLUS in its original, correctly labelled container. Keep the package upright, closed and protected in a cool, dry and well-ventilated location.
Protect the product from direct sunlight, rain, excessive heat, freezing conditions and physical damage.
Keep containers away from food, animal feed, strong oxidising agents, open flames, welding operations, sparks and other heat or ignition sources.
The referenced Australian Safety Data Sheet does not classify the unused product as hazardous according to Safe Work Australia criteria or as Dangerous Goods for road and rail transport. The oil remains combustible and must be handled carefully.
Avoid eye contact, prolonged or repeated skin contact and inhalation of oil mist or aerosol.
Wear suitable safety shoes, protective clothing, nitrile gloves and safety glasses. Use appropriate ventilation where oil mist may be generated.
Hydraulic equipment can operate at extremely high pressure. Never use a hand or finger to search for a hydraulic leak. Fluid injected beneath the skin is a medical emergency, even where the entry wound appears small. Obtain immediate emergency medical treatment.
Clean spills promptly because hydraulic oil creates a serious slip hazard. Contain the product with suitable absorbent material and prevent it from entering drains, soil, stormwater systems or waterways.
Use clean and dedicated transfer equipment. Prevent contamination by water, dust, metal particles, coolant, fuel, brake fluid, cleaning chemicals, used oil and other lubricants.
The 20-litre container holds approximately 17.1 kg of oil before allowing for package weight. Assess the load and use assisted lifting where required.
Full 205-litre drums and 1000-litre IBCs require suitable mechanical handling equipment. Do not attempt to lift or manually reposition these packs.
Use approved drum-handling equipment, forklifts or pallet jacks with adequate rated capacity. Protect closures, drum sides, IBC cages and outlet valves from impact.
Provide appropriate bunding or secondary containment for bulk packs. Inspect stored containers periodically for leakage, corrosion and physical damage.
Collect used hydraulic oil for recycling or controlled disposal through an authorised service. Do not discharge used oil into drains, soil, waterways or general waste.
Consult the current FUCHS Safety Data Sheet before workplace use.
Directions for Use
Confirm that the equipment manufacturer specifies ISO VG 46 high-viscosity-index hydraulic oil or a compatible DIN 51524-3 HVLP or ISO 11158 HV fluid.
Check the required manufacturer approval, seal compatibility and operating-temperature range.
Inspect the reservoir, breathers, filters, hoses, seals, pumps and hydraulic components before filling. Repair leaks and replace damaged components.
Drain the previous fluid according to the equipment manufacturer’s procedure. Remove accumulated sludge, water and settled contamination from the reservoir where practical.
Compatibility must be confirmed before mixing RENOLIN B 46 HVI PLUS with another hydraulic oil. Although many mineral hydraulic oils are physically miscible, mixing may reduce viscosity index, anti-wear performance, water separation and oxidation resistance.
Where the existing fluid is unknown, contaminated, incompatible or badly degraded, a controlled flushing procedure may be required.
Use clean, dedicated pumps, hoses, funnels and transfer containers. Filter the new oil during transfer where required by the equipment cleanliness standard.
Fill the reservoir to the manufacturer’s specified level. Allow for cylinder position and system volume when checking the level.
Start the equipment without heavy load and allow the oil to circulate. Check for abnormal noise, pump cavitation, delayed response, foaming and leakage.
Bleed trapped air according to the manufacturer’s procedure. Do not loosen pressurised fittings to release air.
Recheck the reservoir level after actuators have cycled and trapped air has been removed.
Maintain filters, breathers and reservoir seals. Keep fill points clean and closed when not in use.
