Description

Marvell Log End Sealer Shield Clear (205L)

Heavy-Duty Wax-Based Clear Coating for Professional Timber Protection in Bulk Volumes

Product Overview

Marvell Log End Sealer Shield Clear (205L) is a premium-grade, industrial wax-based sealant designed to prevent premature drying, end splitting, checking, and warping of freshly cut timber logs. Formulated for heavy-duty applications in timber processing facilities, forestry sites, and high-volume storage operations, this 205-litre bulk drum version delivers optimal protection across large quantities of wood.

Its transparent wax-emulsion base ensures that the sealer preserves the natural grain and colour of the timber without leaving behind pigments or stains. The coating slows down evaporation from the vulnerable end grain by forming a flexible yet robust barrier that adjusts to wood movement. Ideal for Australian hardwoods, softwoods, and specialty timbers, it meets the professional standard for cost-effective preservation and quality assurance in timber drying and handling.

Key Features & Benefits

✔️ Bulk-Sized for Industrial Use

With a 205-litre drum, this variant is designed for facilities with high throughput – ensuring seamless sealing across multiple cubic metres of timber without frequent refills or interruptions.

✔️ Moisture Loss Prevention

Marvell Log End Sealer significantly slows the drying process at the cut ends of logs and timber slabs. This helps prevent radial cracks, end checks, and overall degradation of wood quality caused by rapid moisture loss.

✔️ Transparent, Non-Staining Finish

The clear formulation allows the wood’s natural character, grain, and colour to remain fully visible. Ideal for premium timber that will be processed for high-end furniture, joinery, or export.

✔️ Flexible Wax Barrier

The high-viscosity wax base dries into a durable film that remains flexible over time. This allows for natural movement of timber as it gains or loses moisture, reducing the risk of the sealant cracking or delaminating.

✔️ Strong Adhesion on Wet or Green Wood

Whether applied to freshly felled logs or green sawn timber, the product clings tightly to end grain surfaces without running or beading.

✔️ UV & Weather Resistant

The sealer performs reliably in exposed environments, with high resistance to UV light, wind, and moisture—making it ideal for outdoor timber storage and transport.

✔️ Safe, Low-VOC, and Non-Toxic

Formulated without harmful solvents or petroleum distillates, this product is safe for the environment, work crews, and timber destined for sensitive or regulated applications.

Ideal Applications

  • Timber Mills: Use during production to protect cut logs, beams, and slabs prior to kiln drying or export.

  • Forestry & Logging Operations: Apply in the field directly after felling to avoid rapid end drying.

  • Hardwood Exporters: Maintain quality and appearance of high-value species like Blackbutt, Spotted Gum, and Jarrah.

  • Furniture Timber Suppliers: Avoid defects on large-dimension timber used for slabs, benchtops, or architectural joinery.

  • Construction Yards & Framing Plants: Protect structural timber and beams during long-term outdoor storage.

  • Custom Woodworking Facilities: Preserve moisture content for slabs and planks destined for artisanal or precision work.

Handling & Storage Advice

  • Storage: Store indoors or under cover, in a cool, dry place. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or temperatures above 40°C. Do not allow product to freeze.

  • Shelf Life: Up to 12 months if kept sealed and undisturbed in original drum.

  • Drum Handling: Use mechanical drum lifters or trolleys for safe movement of the 205L drum. Do not roll or drop.

  • Disposal: Dispose of empty drums in accordance with local environmental and waste disposal regulations.

  • Clean-Up: Tools, brushes, or spray equipment can be cleaned with warm soapy water immediately after use.

  • Personal Safety: Avoid prolonged skin contact. Wear gloves and eye protection during application.

Application Instructions

  1. Surface Prep: Ensure the log end is freshly cut, clean, and free from bark, dirt, or standing water.

  2. Stir Before Use: Gently stir contents in drum to ensure even consistency. Do not dilute.

  3. Application Tools: Use industrial brush, roller, or airless spray system compatible with wax-based coatings.

  4. Coverage Consideration: One 205L drum is typically sufficient for sealing the end grain of 40–60 cubic metres of timber (depending on surface texture and species).

  5. Drying Conditions: Apply in dry weather. Avoid rain or freezing temperatures during drying.

  6. Recoating: A single coat is sufficient for most hardwoods. Recoat only if logs are extremely porous or high exposure is expected.

Performance Notes

  • Particularly effective on hardwoods and dense Australian species which are prone to end-checking due to uneven drying.

  • Unlike petroleum-based sealers, it does not leave behind unpleasant odours or contamination that could affect further processing (e.g. gluing or finishing).

  • The clear formula is ideal when visual grading or species differentiation must remain visible after application.

  • Once fully cured, it resists flaking, runoff, and degradation for extended periods—even in hot and dry regions of Australia.

Cost & Efficiency in Bulk Operations

Using the 205L bulk drum offers significant cost savings per litre over smaller containers. It is ideal for:

  • Large-scale timber suppliers

  • Forestry contractors during harvest season

  • Facilities applying sealant continuously as part of processing flow

  • Exporters preparing large consignments for international shipment

With consistent application, wastage is minimal, and labour time is reduced thanks to fewer drum changes and longer run times for automated systems.
