What is the air-release capability of the lubricants?

Posted by Hamid Shakouri on 3rd Sep 2024

Air release refers to the oil’s capacity to release air bubbles from the oil's bulk to the surrounding environment. The air release test assesses the duration required for air bubbles to ascend and exit an oil sample, conducted at a temperature of 54°C. Various factors influence the air release outcome of oils, encompassing oil viscosity, the molecular structure and composition of the base oil, and the additives incorporated in oil formulation. It is measured according to ASTM D-3427
