What are mineral hydraulic oil Classifications ?

Posted by Hamid Shakouri on 3rd Sep 2024

The most popular hydraulic liquid (hydraulic oil) is mineral oil-based, with suitable additives added as per the application. The requirements for this hydraulic oil are set out in ISO 6743-4 with the designations HL, HM, and HV. The German designations HL, HLP, and HVLP are used universally for hydraulic oils, in accordance with DIN 51524.

Classification Properties
H and HH Mineral oil devoid of active ingredients
HL Incorporates active ingredients to improve corrosion protection and bolster resistance to aging.
HM Incorporates active ingredients to enhance corrosion protection and resistance to aging, while also mitigating wear from scoring in the mixed friction area.
HLP Supplementary active ingredients, along with HL oil, are introduced to minimize wear and enhance resistance in the mixed friction area, a prevalent application in practical scenarios
HV and HVLP Comparable to HLP, yet with heightened resistance to aging and an enhanced temperature-viscosity relationship.
HLPD Similar to HLP, this variant incorporates additives to improve particle transport (detergent effect) and dispersion capacity (water carrying capacity). Additionally, it includes active ingredients aimed at enhancing corrosion protection (German designation, not standardized).
